Follicular Unit Grafting

Follicular Unit Grafting (FUG), also known as follicular unit transplantation (FUT), is an advanced hair restoration technique designed to address hair loss and thinning effectively.

Why Follicular Unit Grafting? It’s simple: it’s the closest thing to nature’s own design. We understand that each follicular unit, with its natural groupings of 1, 2, 3, or 4 hairs, represents the pinnacle of quality and authenticity. By preserving these units intact during transplantation, we ensure the most natural-looking results possible.

At Biltmore Surgical Hair Restoration, we’re not just following trends; we’re setting them. Our skilled team, led by Dr. Scott Alexander MD, harnesses the power of Follicular Unit Grafting to create seamless hairlines and achieve optimal density. By mimicking the natural angle and distribution of your hair, we guarantee results that are virtually undetectable.

Lateral Slit Technique

Our Lateral Slit Technique is a game-changer in hair transplants. Unlike traditional vertical slits, which can make your hair look thin and unnatural, our horizontal slits mimic natural hair growth patterns, making your hair appear thicker and more natural.

Here’s why it matters:

Vertical slits can create a “corn row” appearance, while horizontal slits avoid this, giving your hair a denser look.

Our technique ensures that grafts are angled precisely as your natural hair, reducing the risk of an unnatural look caused by varying angles.

By aligning grafts horizontally, we replicate the natural arrangement of hair follicles, blocking light from shining through the scalp and creating a denser appearance. At Biltmore Surgical Hair Restoration, we’re proud to offer the exclusive Lateral Slit Technique for a more natural, denser-looking result.

Custom Cut Blades

We’re dedicated to providing the finest in custom hair transplants, and that includes using cutting-edge technology like custom surgical blade cutters. Here’s why it matters:

Precision Cutting: These blades are tailored to match the size and shape of each individual’s follicles, reducing trauma to the vascular plexus.

Shape Matters: Unlike traditional sharp blades, our custom blades are squared off or chisel-cut, mimicking the shape of follicles for more precise placement.

Narrow Design: Our blades are narrower (usually 0.7mm to 0.9mm), ensuring exact precision under magnification. Other offices typically use larger blades (1.5mm to 2.0mm) for quicker placement, sacrificing precision.

At our clinic, we prioritize precision and care in every aspect of your transplant, including using custom cut blades for the best results.

The ARTAS Robotic System stands as a pinnacle of precision and effectiveness in hair transplantation. By aiding your physician in meticulously placing new hair in areas of miniaturized or thinning hair while safeguarding your existing healthy follicles, it ensures a restoration of natural thickness and volume.

This FDA-cleared, physician-assisted technology operates through advanced algorithms and high-resolution imaging to identify and extract the most viable hair follicles with unparalleled accuracy. Its robotic precision minimizes human error and ensures consistent, natural-looking results.

In contrast to traditional hair transplant methods like strip surgery, which often involve plugs, pain, and stitches, the ARTAS system offers a minimally invasive approach. It leaves no linear scar, affording you the freedom to cut and style your hair as desired.

With ARTAS, you can expect permanent, natural-looking results that seamlessly integrate with your existing hair, all achieved through a state-of-the-art, minimally invasive procedure.

Great Hairline Design

Creating a natural-looking hairline is crucial for a successful hair restoration. It can be the difference between a noticeable transplant and a seamless, beautiful result.

To achieve this, certain principles and a keen eye for detail are essential. Hair transplant surgery demands a level of artistic skill beyond many other procedures. Since every face is unique, your hairline should be too. That’s why choosing the right surgeon is paramount.

When crafting your hairline, we focus on creating a subtle, non-linear shape. We start with Zone 1, filling it with single-hair follicular units for a soft appearance. Then, in Zone 2 and the frontal tuft, we strategically place larger grafts to ensure natural density. By employing techniques like the lateral slit method, we block light effectively, creating the illusion of fuller hair.

While a good transplant typically achieves about 50% of normal density, our approach aims to make your hairline appear naturally dense. Through careful design and technique, we deliver results that meet your expectations for a soft, natural-looking hairline.

Dense Packing

The principle of “more is better” is fundamental in modern hair transplantation and should guide decision-making in hair restoration surgery.

Patients often encounter confusion when receiving conflicting advice from different clinics. Some clinics recommend low-density transplants of 1,000 to 2,000 grafts across the entire bald scalp area, providing only 16-20 grafts per square centimeter. This is often justified by citing concerns about blood supply and graft survival.

However, the truth is that low-density transplants are chosen for their ease and speed, requiring less skill and experience. Some clinics may showcase high-density transplant results but fail to disclose that they were achieved through multiple surgeries in the same area.

Achieving a natural-looking transplant requires a higher density of 30-45 grafts per square centimeter or more. This demands exceptional skill, patience, and the right equipment. Custom cut blades play a crucial role here. Their sharpness and small size allow for close placement of slits with minimal trauma and quick healing, resulting in greater graft survival and superior outcomes.

While dense packing requires more time and care, the results justify the effort. Fewer surgeries lead to better results, emphasizing the importance of getting it right the first time.
