What the "No Linear Scar" Claim Means (and Doesn't)

FUE — follicular unit extraction — removes individual grafts from the donor area using a small punch instrument. Because no strip of tissue is removed, no linear incision is made and no linear scar results.
That is the specific and accurate claim: no linear scar.
FUE does leave very small, round points in the donor area at each extraction site. These heal within one to two weeks and, at typical hair lengths, are not visible to the naked eye. The distinction matters: “no linear scar” is accurate and verifiable. “Scar-free” is not, and it sets an expectation the procedure cannot meet.

OUR TECHNIQUE

How Dr. Alexander Performs FUE

Extraction at Biltmore is performed manually rather than robotically, using a handheld instrument with custom-cut blades, known as the lateral-slit technique, matched to the width and depth of each individual follicle. Trained technicians assist with extraction under Dr. Alexander’s direct supervision. Dr. Alexander personally creates every recipient site, inspects every graft, and places every graft himself, giving him direct control over the angle, depth, and final placement of each graft.
Sites are created before grafts are placed. This sequencing allows the sites to define the hairline design before any grafts are committed. Grafts are inspected under magnification before placement.
The result is a natural-looking hairline with minimal donor-area disruption.

Comparing FUE and Strip: The Scar Question

FUE: No linear scar. Small, round points in the donor area. Suitable for patients who prefer to wear their hair short. Practical upper limit for most patients is approximately 2,000 grafts per session.
Strip/FUT: One linear scar along the back of the scalp. Concealable at normal hair lengths. Generally the better choice for larger sessions of 2,000 or more grafts, or when maximum graft count is the priority.
The right technique depends on your goals and your case. Dr. Alexander evaluates both options at the consultation and gives you a direct recommendation.
